After the evaluation of the Global Wine Tourism Organization (GWTO), Yantai was approved to join the organization, becoming the organization's first "partnership" member in China. This is another international wine organization honor that Yantai City has won after being awarded the title of "International Vine and Wine City" and observer status by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) in 1987.

The Global Wine Tourism Organization (GWTO) is a non-profit organization registered in Madrid, Spain in October 2020, relying on the relationship network of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). At present, the member countries of the organization include Spain, France, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Greece, Brazil, Uruguay, etc. The main member cities include Rioja in Spain, Mendoza in Argentina, Napa in the United States, and Bordeaux in France. 

Since last year, Yantai Government has taken the wine industry as one of the 16 key industrial chains developed by the city. According to the its plan,the development of Yantai's wine industry has risen to a new height in history. GWTO believes that the Yantai has a long wine-making history, profound heritage, complete industrial chain and strong industrial foundation. It has great potential and broad prospects for wine tourism, and has good conditions to become a world-renowned wine-producing area tourism destination. 

Becoming a member of the Global Wine Tourism Organization will further enhance the international reputation and influence of the Yantai wine region, polish the golden signboard of "International Grape and Wine City", further integrate the city into the international wine scene, and expand the international circle in the Yantai wine-producing area.
